Named after the Hindu goddess of destruction, Kali, the river rises in Mustang on the northern side of the Himalayan range. As it tumbles down between the majestic Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna ranges, it creates one of the world's deepest river canyons.
The recent damming of the lower portion of this river has left us with one of Nepal's premier medium length river journeys that combines great whitewater with some of the most beautiful scenery in Nepal, seldom-visited villages, truly quiet and introspective evenings, abundant wildlife, sandy beaches and outrageously beautiful waterfalls.

The rapids on the Kali Gandaki are much more technical and continuous and thus, keeps paddlers busy all day. Both experienced and novice rafters love this. Nowhere else is it possible to find such diversity on a 3 day raft trip.
Nice drops, sparkling chutes and turbulent rapids provide class III to IV+ runs during the fall and spring seasons. This ancient trading route from Tibet takes you through the deepest river gorge in the world. Watch out for the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain ranges (a popular trekking route) and have your camera ready!
Cost includes: All meals, transportation to the put-in point and back from the take-out point, all rafting equipments and accommodation on a twin sharing basis.
Cost does not include: Sleeping bags/ mattresses, alcoholic beverages, personal expenses and insurance.
Turbulent rapids intertwine with abrupt drops as we dodge our way down the intricate chutes of sparkling water. Village terraces cling precariously to the slopes and surreal snow capped peaks hang suspended above us as we drift through the world's deepest gorge. Being one of the holiest rivers in Nepal, every junction of the Kali Gandaki is dotted with cremation sites and above ground burial mounds.

* Medium high flows.
** Due to pre-monsoon storms and snowmelt, expeditions at these times will be high flows.
*** With monsoon season, the river gets wild and very high, so expect more challenging rivers…
My husband and I went on a trek in Nepal this past August, and we had a fabulous time. It was truly the most unique, beautiful outdoor travel experience that either of us have ever had. For anyone considering trekking in the Himalayas, we highly recommend Raj Tamang as a guide. His company, Responsible Adventures (www.responsibleadventures.com) and (www.notjusttreks.com), is professional and customer-service oriented. We were amazed at the ways that Raj and his employees went above and beyond to make this experience memorable for us. Raj is a 'walking encyclopedia' of information about the culture and history of Nepal, and his confident, welcoming nature put us at ease. He was experienced at facilitating positive, genuine interaction between Himalayan villagers and Western trekkers such as ourselves, and that made all the difference in our 10 days touring the Manang valley. His company offers a service that is truly a cut above the rest.
We can't wait for another opportunity to trek with Raj! Feel free to check out our story and pics at www.joshandelise2008.blogspot.com
