Julley! Greetings from Ladakh, the land of many passes. The beginning of July brought the Kosloff family from Israel to Leh, Ladakh. They had booked a four-day sightseeing jeep safari around various places in Ladakh which included several monasteries built between the 11th and 16th Centuries and to Dha, where there are people of Aryan origin but who are Buddhists with unique features. After four days of sightseeing we started on a thirteen day trek from Lamayuru to Chilling and on to the more famous Markha valley.
For the first six days of the trek we met no other trekkers except for a French man. We were blissfully in a world of our own with magnificent mountain scenery. We didn't know of the world cup results until we hit the main Markha valley trail on the 12th. On the first day of arriving on the Markha trail we saw 40 other trekkers. It was the highest number of people we had seen since we left Leh; however it was nice to socialise once again.
Most of the walking was done in silence - enjoying the glorious views, contemplating, being one with nature and listening to the surrounding sounds of nature. There was an abundance of wildlife. It was lovely watching birds, such as the lammergeyer and golden eagle, pika (mouse hare), blue sheep and marmots.
