IS EVEREST ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

Hi, my name is Peter Johnson, and I am a 56 year old, overweight, unfit, sedentary office-based executive. It was with some trepidation that I allowed myself to be talked into a charity walk up to Ghorepani and Poon Hill.

A bunch of friends and colleagues from Bahrain convinced me, and I ended up having a great time, because of Raj and his Responsible Adventures team. Raj and his team outdid themselves. I was hooked, I believe that returning customers are the best indicator of judging excellent service. My trek to Everest was my third trip with Responsible Adventures and, without a doubt, an experience that changed my life. It was like something out of a movie.

We were part of a small group visiting a remote village outside of the tourist footprint in East Nepal, where some locals have probably never seen a westerner. This trip was part road, trek and camp. There were no tea houses. We attended local traditional weddings over 4 days, even becoming good friends with two villagers.

Speaking to Raj is natural and amazing.

He speaks excellent English, so planning and booking everything was a breeze. He also prides himself on being able to offer many recommendations and advice, which was highly appreciated as we were working on a tight schedule.

The food was outstanding and very healthy.

We were treated to superfoods, that ensured we had enough energy so we could take on the next day. We were so surprised by the variety and quality of the food produced at the campsite. A single lady traveling with our group said she had more variety than she did at home. Raj was also a fabulous and attentive host, always checking with the group to make sure we were happy and had everything we wanted.

Tents, mats and sleeping bags were supplied!

We only had to bring our personal items. Porters carried the gear and set the campsites up for us. The crew are trained in hygiene, first aid and emergencies if required. Fortunately, we have never had to test this. Raj will also tell you that they were the first to introduce hand sanitizers as mandatory for all porters. This is to ensure all the guests remain healthy during their stay. You can trek as slow as you like, which in fact is better for you in high altitudes. This crew will never rush you or make you feel left behind. Other companies ask up to $6000 for similar treks.

I would suggest, when you go, take a couple of days at Kathmandu. It is a fabulous city to wander around and get to know. Raj will tell you where to go, and he knows most of the sites to visit.

Responsible Adventures will treat you to some fantastic little surprises along the way. I don't want to spoil it, but I would go again, just for these little arranged treats.

This has been a boutique experience

It has allowed me to connect with others without getting lost in the crowd. You are also able to have a more significant say in decisions that have to be made on the spot if conditions change. Raj and his team made us feel apart of it all, and we have made lifelong friends as a result. I can highly recommend Responsible Adventures, and I believe you won't be disappointed in using them. 16 Days for only $2750!

I can honestly say the sunrise on the Annapurna range the one morning will remain with me as long as I live and breathe. To see the Annapurna range appear out of the darkness like some massively broken jawline, then seeing the erect fangs being bathed in the copper and golden hues as the sun came up and eventually crystallising into white-capped mountains, was a life-enhancing experience.

To be completely truthful, it wasn't all plain sailing, but what getaway is? We had some hiccups with our flights (due to the weather!) on the way back. We knew we were in capable hands, so we just sat back and relaxed with our cup of tea while Raj sorted us out!

If you are in Pokhara and have a chance to take a tour with Raj and Responsible Adventures, I couldn't recommend him more! You will meet amazing people, see a lovely city from several different perspectives and... fly!

Why not find out when their next departure date is, and you could join them?
